U17s and U14s improve as games progress

The U17s, bolstered by six U18s played away at Hastings and lost 43-19 but this doesn't tell the whole story as they came back impressively to win the second half 17-19 with two tries by full-back Cian Furlong and one by outside centre Mitch Perks with Dan Billin converting two of them. The match was preceded by a minute's silence in honour of a Hastings junior player who lost his life in a road traffic accident.

The U14s lost away to Horsham 34-0. The second half saw a sterling defensive effort with Horsham crossing the line at least three times only to be held up together with many try-saving tackles.

The U13s lost 25-10 to Chichester with tries scored by JJ Clarke and Aidan Drew. The game was much closer than the scores suggest and the Lewes squad should be really proud of themselves.

The minis visited the Crowborough Festival. The U7s played 10 games between two squads with four wins, three draws and three losses. Coach Andrew Farmiloe reckoned that "the most important part of the day for all the players was confidence-building and experience in how festivals and playing other teams work".

The U9s had a hugely enjoyable day with both teams playing some great rugby. Each team played five matches, displaying some terrific defence to generate numerous turnovers and strike on the counter in winning the majority of their games. Most pleasing was the deployment by most players of newly-learned continuity skills such as pop passes and offloads. Coach Aroop Tanna said this was "a very encouraging performance by all 16 players involved".

The U12s won two and lost three games. Coach Bob Lockyer felt the competition was a good test of how the U12s were developing as a team.
