ANOTHER TON FOR LEWES!

For the second week running, Lewes notched up another massive score, this time against local rivals Hellingly. With the game switched to the Stanley Turner Ground due to Hellingly's pitch being unplayable, Lewes once again over-whelmed their opponents with a forceful display of attacking rugby, scoring 18 tries and 12 conversions in the process.
Dominating possession and territory from the start, it took Lewes only 24 minutes to score their fourth, bonus-point try after touch-downs from scrum-half Henry Tagg, left-wing Henry Shiell, Mike Stubbs, and Henry Shiell's second, with 3 conversions from centre Nick Sharp, to see the home side open up an early 26 - 0 lead.
On the half-hour, a fine break by full-back Dan Wade saw him unselfishly off-load the ball to flanker Nathan Lowen in support who touched down under the posts for a great try, converted by Sharp, to extend the lead to 33 - 0, followed almost immediately by Henry Shiell's second try under the posts, Sharp adding the extras to see his side pull away at 40 - 0.
Just before the half-time whistle, an error by Hellingly's defence on their own try-line saw the loose ball gratefully snapped up by right-wing Charlie Charlie Hobden for an unconverted try to see his side go in at the break with an unassailable 45 - 0 advantage.
Lewes's superior play continued into the second half, with further tries from outside-half Billy Shiell, a hat-trick from replacement right-winger and Club stalwart, Steve Mills, a spectacular try from 75 metres out by Man-of-the-Match Tagg, 2 more from Lowen to complete his hat-trick, and one apiece from Tagg, centre James Halpin, second-row Jack Nayler and prop-forward Harry Cripps. Sharp's 7 conversions enabled Lewes to run up another record score with a massive 114 - 0 victory.

Commenting after the match, Player-Coach Mike Stubbs said; "The attitude to lift the level again this week was oustanding. It would have been easy to get complacent after last week. This group of players have a belief and determination to make something special happen this year. It's been a great first half of the season but there's a lot of hard work still to be done."

Lewes 2nd's were also at home against Hellingly 2nd's, eventually losing an entertaning game by 5 - 24, their solitary try being scored by veteran winger Simon Sampson.

On Sunday, Lewes U17s, bolstered by four U16s, visited East Grinstead. Despite being forced to play a number of people out of position and the group having never played together before, there was only two points in it with Grinstead eventually winning 12-10. Both sides scored a try in each half with Lewes' coming from U16 prop Dan Marsh and U17 winger Jordan Bowman. Captain Mo Bacha had a cracking game at hooker as did openside Curtis Burch with his 100% record as lineout jumper and ceaseless tackling. The four U16s (Marsh, Louis Barron, Jamie Austen and Dexter Vigar) all looked very much at home. This is next year's Colts so this was a great early trial to get to know each other.
