BRILLIANT LAST-GASP WIN FOR LEWES

The bright start made by Lewes - up 14 - 0 after only 10 minutes - had been wiped out by the middle of the second half when the momentum Park House had gradually generated looked likely to dump a second successive defeat upon the hosts. However, Lewes managed to gain a territorial advantage in the last quarter to take the spoils.
Quick movement of the ball in the opening session put the visitors under heavy pressure, enabling hooker Sean Sayers to crash over in front of the posts, right-winger Abe Bredin kicking the conversion, to see Lewes open the scoring at 7 - 0. This kick was repeated a few minutes later, converting full-back Henry Shiell's try following an inside pass, to forge ahead at 14 - 0. But as Lewes then began to struggle in the line-outs, the visitors took advantage, scoring a try a few yards out after a rolling maul, the conversion seeing them claw back to 14 - 7.Just before the break, an attacking kick to the corner saw Park House score their second, but unconverted, try to narrow matters to 14 - 12 at the half-time whistle.
The visitors had the better of the third quarter of the match, taking the lead for the first time with a penalty and a fine, converted, try from their left-winger to go ahead at 14 - 22. But then replacement Jon Pitts - coming on for the injured Billy Shiell -closed the gap to
17 - 22 with a penalty, and then Lewes re-took the lead a few minutes alter with a stunning try after inside-centre Ben Booth broke through the middle to feed outside-centre Will Feltham (pictured) who managed to curve around the visitor's defence for a try near the posts. The conversion by Pitts gave Lewes a slender 24 - 22 lead which they defended with great organisation and discipline for the remaining five minutes of the match.
A great win for Lewes which - having regard to the fact that they still had several players missing - showed their character and overall strength. They will need to repeat these aspects of their play when they make the long trip to impressive Kent side Folkestone on the 1st December (there being no games on Saturday due to the Home Internationals).

Lewes 2nd's - with a severely depleted aside - travelled to St. Leonards and were unsurprisingly at the wrong end of a heavy 53 - 3 defeat, their sole points coming via Dan Billin penalty.
