In this Salver Cup match played at the Stanley Turner Ground, an outstanding Hove 3rd XV completely dominated the match from start to finish, beating a much-changed Lewes 2nds by 12-81. Although the first half was a much closer affair - Hove leading 7-28 at the break after Lewes had scored a fine try by speedy right-winger Johnny Wilmer, converted by Josh Farr - the visitors pulled away in the second half, scoring at will due to a combination of fine, all-round attacking rugby and too many unforced errors from the hosts. Lewes' sole reply during this turbulent period was an unconverted try from Farr.
Lewes 1sts - without a game due to Cup fixtures elsewhere - return to League duties on Saturday with a crunch match away to local rivals Haywards Heath, k.o. 2.30 pm, for what may well turn out to be a defining moment insofar as League placings are concerned.
