Former player and a current Vice-President, Dereck Wade became a grandfather for the first time some months ago, and pictured is a photograph of him, alongside his son Daniel (Club Captain and 1st XV player) and 11-month old William ("Billy") - the Club's latest signing - in their Lewes RFC shirts.
Dereck - who took up rugby relatively late in life - said:
"Although a late-comer to our wonderful game, it didn't take me long to realise what a strong, family-oriented sport is rugby - and here's the proof!"
More evidence of this is the fact that several of Lewes's current and former players - both ladies and men - have similar family associations with former players, as follows:
James Durrant (son of David; grandson of Chris)
Billy Shiell (son of Stuart)
Dexter Vigar (Mark)
Joel Evans (Nathan)
George Tagg (Treve)
Sarah Hughes (Terry) - who wore the same No 13 shirt as her father! - scored Lewes Ladies' first-ever try some 20 years ago, an event which is to be celebrated this Saturday with a re-union Lunch before the Mens' home game against Old Williamsonians.
Ellen Small (Rod - former player/Coach). Ellen went on to play for England Ladies Under 18 team.
