Club says goodbye to Bob Mainstone

Bob Mainstone - a regular in Lewes Rugby Club's successful 1st XV in the 1970s - died recently after a short illness.

Bob played either at scrum-half or full-back, and captained the side for several seasons. He was also its main goal-kicker during a period when Lewes were the strongest club in the County, winning the Sussex Cup on many occasions.

Although he never took himself or the game too seriously, Bob was a great competitor and contributed greatly to the achievements of his side in that era. At full-back, his forte was the initiation of the counter-attack, from which many tries resulted.

The Club sends its condolences and best wishes to Christine and the family.
