Heathfield & Waldron 3's 28- 34 Lewes 2's

Lewes second team March to the top of the league, after a thrilling win against Heathfield & Waldron 3rd team.

Lewes once again were unable to field a front row, so started 10-0 down just like they did at Seaford. But fresh from the team talk about having fun and playing some running rugby, Lewes soon made their intentions clear. A very youthful team scored an early try showcasing hard, fast, offloading rugby which was the theme throughout. However they weren't to have it all their own way and were soon pegged back through a try outwide by a Heathfield winger. This had come off the back of poor discipline by Lewes who had been pinged several times at the breakdown and Heathfield tapped and went a few times. A quick huddle under the posts, where a call for better communication to stop tries outwide and better discipline at the breakdown was needed. It didn't take long for Lewes to reply through lovely link play between forwards and backs, piercing Heathfield's defence all over the place. Lewes took a slender lead into the half time break, with the general order of the day being: get quick ball, feed our electric backs who will score and communicate better in defence.

Lewes resumed dominance, breaking the gain line at will, forward and backs...Lewes began to build a more comfable Lead. However, Heathfield came back and pinned Lewes in their 22 for a while, as Lewes were giving away penalties and Heathfield's 10 had an accurate kick to pin it in the corners. They scored a soft try which galvanised Lewes, who were not gonna let Heathfield breach their line again. This is exactly what happened and Lewes resumed throwing the ball around and hitting gaps as Heathfield tired and were second best to a youthful Lewes side (minus Aidan).

All in all a very good win, with a scratch side made the day before and 17 men who didn't really know each other. A very promising side who need a front row and a few training sessions together to add some structure and could well do very well in this league.

3 games, 3 wins...A perfect start to a hopefully successful season for Lewes 2's.
