Lewes I (19) v Old Albanians (33)

Lewes Ladies 1st team met the current league leaders Old Albanian’s at home on Sunday.

Lewes kicked off with a shaky start, conceding two tries in first twenty minutes.

The team fought back with a series of close battles before Abi Radford chased down a kick from the half way line beating the defenders to touch down. This was converted skilfully by Sam Monaghan with assistance from Rob Williams as tee to bring the score up to 7 - 12.

Lewes was settling into the game holding their own against a strong OA side before the visitors brought the score up to 7 - 24, despite a valiant defence from Lewes on their 5m line.

Just before half time, Lewes came back with a penalty try for a high tackle on Nicola Minchell who would’ve scored a lovely try on the right wing to bring the score 14 - 24.

Lewes felt very much still in the game when Alice Crowe-Wright made an impressive run from the halfway line beating four chasing defenders to bring the score to 19 - 24.

OA were energised by a roll on of fresh legs and persistent attack closed the game at 19 - 33.

Lewes left the pitch feeling like they had more to give, a strength to take into training before of their next league game.

Forward of the match went to Kitty Robinson who played her first full 80 minutes as prop for Lewes, making a strong impact in the scrum and fantastic work rate around the park.
Back of the match went to Abigail Radford for her characteristically impressive tackling and strong attacking play.

Lewes Ladies 1st will play Chesham Ladies away in their next league game on the 3 February 2019.
