Lewes Ladies 1s VX 38 vs Medway Ladies 14

Lewes Ladies 1st XV team faced Medway at Home on Sunday for the first time in two years. It was a suitably competitive meeting, with both sides keen to come back from their last tough defeats.
Medway scored the first points of the game with a try from their winger which was converted.
Lewes were not to be tamed as they made an instant comeback with a fantastic team try finished by Grace Darling to make it 5-7.
Momentum was building for Lewes and Katya Motuel scored on the right wing to make it 10-7.
Two minutes before half time, a clinical team play led to a great run from Charli Evans beating two defenders and diving for the line for another Lewes try. Sam Monaghan converted it to make it 24-17.

Moments before the half time whistle Grace Darling scored her second try with a impressive conversion from Sam Monaghan to make the score 24-7 to Lewes at half time.

Lewes felt in their stride heading into the second half, and it didn’t take long before Grace Darling scored her hatrick of the match with a beautiful traverse between Medway’s defence from the half way line under the posts. Sam Monaghan converted making it 31-7 to the Home side.

With 15 minutes to go, Medway came fighting back with a series of forwards plays in the Home teams 22 which penetrated their defence making it 31-14.
In the last few minutes of the game, Lewes’s strength showed as they held on to possession and finished with a team try from a scrum in Medway’s 22, finished elegantly by Abi Radford. The try was converted by Sam Monaghan to make the final score 38-14 to Lewes.
A fantastic win for the Lewes 1st team which sets a strong platform ahead of their Away game against Old Albanians this weekend.

Thanks as ever to the wonderful Danny for providing the photography and for all those who came to support.
