Lewes U15s 52-Shoreham U15s 19

Shoreham visited a warm Stanley Turner ground despite being depleted of a few key players with a contingent doing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards Expedition. Lewes had not played Shoreham for a few years but still recognised a fair few of their squad, however they had both grown a lot during that period!

The match got off to a quick start with Lewes scoring quickly. However, in what is Lewes U15s' current Achilles heel, a turnover from a counter ruck lead to some quick ball for Shoreham on which they capitalised well and scored in the corner. Lewes then got back on top scoring some well worked tries and Ben Goode slotting over some good conversions.

Whilst Lewes looked sharp with the ball in hand going forward they were counter-rucked on too many occasions, and whilst they did secure their own ruck ball, it was often slow and scrappy. The half time team talk was to ensure focussed on playing some structured rugby and the mission to secure better ball at the breakdown and run-through the phases and let the scores come from that. There was a better second half performance from the forwards even winning a counter ruck of their own leading to a try. The lineout worked well with some nice catch and drives, good scrums, determined and hard tackling and good handling in attack. Tries: Nick Fletcher (3), Marcus Faulkner, Ben Goode (4). Conversions: Ben Goode (6)

Head Coach Ben Green was very appreciative of the sportsmanship of his squad: "A big thanks to George, Giles, Dylan, Cam and Ollie for their performances supporting Shoreham’s depleted squad. Even if this did result in the battle of Lewes Hooker vs Hooker Dylan vs Cam, No 8 vs No 8 Luca vs Giles and Ollie taking on Lewes' back line and winning, scoring Shoreham second try!"
