Lewes Blues used this very amicable session against a second-string Cranbrook side as a warm-up for their first festival in Hastings next week. Despite conceding Todd Blackburn and Cameron Baker to Cranbrook in the second half - both of whom scored for the visitors - Lewes ran out clear winners. The Sussex side looked best when they played their natural flowing game with speed of pass and foot and did not get involved in too much close-quarter combat but the forwards (Blackburn, Findley Tucknott, Ollie Smith, Zeph Mulligan and Jack Taylor) looked solid in the scrum. Man of the Match was undoubtedly Sam Webster who scored four tries and was everywhere, dancing and spinning around tacklers. He and Baker took turns at scrum-half with equal ease, Louis Barron ran some beautiful lines and laid off great passes for Alfie Winter and Brandon Hayes treated the spectators to some of his classic interceptions enabling him to score. Jack Taylor gained the nickname "Ripper" for his singular abilities in the maul and the most impressive sight was of Dan Billin flooring several attackers in a way which has not been seen before.

At the end of a very friendly joint training session, two teams of mostly new players gave a very entertaining display. Cranbrook came out the clear winners with Lewes Whites' defensive organisation showing their inexperience. However there was some promising signs. Luke Farnes, given the responsibility of leading out the team from scrum-half made plenty of breaks and led the way in tackling and Jack Davidian-Judd was clearly relishing the contact area. Freddy Mouland rumbled over for an excellent try and Sam Wye made a superb contribution showing committed running to make his score but also making a brilliant try-saving tackle to push out Cranbrook's most dangerous runner just before the left hand side of the touchline.
