NEW SIGNINGS ADDED TO LEWES SQUAD

In their opening pre-season friendly, a large Lewes squad lost out to strong Kent side Cranbrook in match played over 4 x 20 minute quarters, in front of a large and vociferous home crowd. The final score - as one would expect from what was in effect a trials match, with many substitutions throughout - did not reflect the overall Lewes performance who, in fact, won one and drew one of the four sessions.
The Lewes squad contained several new signings to add to the bulk of last season's numbers, and the Club also welcomed back former Coach Chris Roberts, who will be acting as Coaching Development Officer for the Sussex side, including not only the Senior teams, but also the Mini and Junior Sections.
The overall score was 33 - 7 to the hosts, Lewes's solitary try coming via a great individual effort from stalwart Harry Hanley, converted by one of last season's finds, Dan Billin.
No doubt the return of several more of last season's squad, plus potential new signings, will strengthen the numbers in time for the beginning of the League season on 14th. September (home to Hove II's , k.o. 3.00pm).

Lewes Squad (* new signings) - Sayers, Hill, Haig*, Warren, Spalding*, Bowry, Wakely, Cowling, Sullivan*, Sell*, Vigar, Moule, Dodgson, Day*, Rourke, Jones, Billin, Whiting, Booth, Hanley, W.Shiell, Petty, Austin, Hampel, Graham.

On Saturday, Lewes host Surrey-based Cranleigh at the Stanley Turner Ground for their second pre-season friendly, kick-off 2.00pm.
