Lewes secure their best ever league position.

Yesterday was a proud day for the women’s section. 35 women put on a Lewes shirt and did the club proud. The season came full circle as the first team faced third place Beckenham. This was always going to be a battle, with Beckenham wanting revenge from the clash at the start of the season that saw Lewes storm to victory.

The whistle blew and the nerves were high. Lewes settled down quickly and put in som big hits. Strong scrummaging and some expert jackling saw the women gain some serious ground. Lewes got over the line but the referee deemed it to be held up.

Beckenham pushed back up the pitch and had a strong centre runner who crossed the line and went to place the ball down under the posts. Lewes did not give up when most teams would have taken their foot of the gas. This forced Beckenham off the pitch and Lewes were given a chance to get back in the game.

The players on the pitch were a credit to the club who kept their discipline after some questionable words and actions from both the referee and the opposition.

A strong line break from Beckenham saw them score the first try and convert to take the score to 0-7

The second half started and Lewes were not ready to give up. There were some moments of flair that unfortunately could not be converted in to points. Beckenham ceased their opportunity and weaved in and out to score under the posts and convert. 0-14

Lewes suffered some serious injuries which forced three players off the pitch. The team came together and re shuffled which meant most players were playing out of position. Lewes showed grit, determination, sportsmanship and true passion and scored a well deserved try.

The game ended 5-14 but Lewes came away with the loosing bonus point.
The 1st team have had their most successful season ever and finished an impressive 2nd in the league. A massive thanks to our dedicated coaches who have helped us achieve this.

Thank you to all the supporters and the wonderful Danny Simpson for capturing some incredible shots of both games.
