1st XV (5) vs Beckenham (43), 2nd XV (24) - vs Cranbrook (43)

A tough day at the office for both Lewes women’s teams as they suffered heavy defeats at the hands of their oppositions.

The 1s lost 43-5 against Beckenham, with a try from Joan Stovell.
The 2s started well at 13-aside and led 19-0 into the second half. Fresh legs and a drop to 12-aside got the better of them in the end. Tries came from Caro Sugranes, Rachael Mason, Hana Miller and Jade Walter, who also converted 2. Final score 43-24 to Cranbrook.

Respectable performances on both counts from all teams. Both Lewes sides showed that they can still play the Lewes way even under heavy defeat.

The day also marked the end of the league season for the Mighty Twos. It is worth noting that the odds of survival are very much stacked against ladies' sections that attempt to launch a second team. So for Lewes to be promoted after one season, achieve third or fourth place in their second (to be confirmed) and go into a third season with good numbers to forge ahead with is a testament to the hard work and sacrifice of captains, coaches and players alike. It isn't easy but it is so worth it and we thank all those who have believed in us. To win the cup would just be the icing on the cake!

Still to come this season:
31 March: 1st XV final league game vs Chesham
14 April: 2nd XV have reached the National Junior Cup final! To be played in Derby - details tbc.
7 June: club's end of season do
13-16 June: Lewes ladies at Chester 7s
28 June: Lewes ladies awards night
