Remembering Trevor Botting

Roger Meyer represented Lewes RFC at the funeral of erstwhile member Trevor Botting. Trevor was very much a Lewesian and after schooling at Lewes County Grammar he played top rugby for the Royal Engineers. After national service he joined Lewes RFC and played for us for about ten years starting in the mid-fifties.

He was a very solid but entirely fair old fashioned prop who regarding handling the ball as something for the "girls" (now usually referred to as three-quarters).

Trevor, who died aged 81, had a distinguished career in the ambulance service. Our thoughts go out to Monica and the rest of his family.

Trevor features in the attached photograph of the 1st XV of 56 years ago. Can you recognize three other faces in the back row still regulars at the STG?"
