Report by Sean Sayers, U16 Lionesses head coach

Sunday saw us travel to Uckfield for a friendly match which turned in to a very tight contest.

We have been working hard on our rucking, tackle height and game play.

We started the first quarter with some amazing hard contact both in the tackle and the ruck area. We worked on making our ball as clean as possible at the ruck clearing players away from the area and making opposition ball messy and slow, the girls performed this perfectly.

Making it hard for Uckfield to get forward momentum.
In the second quarter Uckfield used their big ball carriers well and ran in two quick tries ending the quarter 10-0 up.

After the girls had their say at half time and knowing they didn’t deserve to be behind.
They came out for the third quarter firing on all cylinders. Chasing every ball, putting pressure on Uckfield in defence and gaining 40m without the ball, pushing and pressing Uckfield until we created a turnover and Beth picking from the base of the ruck on a barnstorming run to the 5m line where our support play clean the ruck for Matilda to pick a dive for the line.

This was followed by two back to back tries after some great defence and attacking plays putting us ahead after the 3rd quarter.
4th and final quarter was end to end, some great rugby played by both teams. The girls listened and stuck to everything we had spoken about and played right to the end, unfortunately a late try by Uckfield meant we lost the game 22-19

The coaches could not be any prouder of this group of lionesses.
They are growing as a team and their commitment to training and game days can not be faulted.

Coaches player of the day was Beth, the opposition chose Harriet as player of the day.
