Nine new Lewes RFC debutants were included when a first team squad of 30 players travelled to Guildford for their first pre-season friendly of their new campaign.
In the first half, Lewes conceded all of their tries as the squad found their feet and got used to their new team mates. It was a half littered with errors from both sides as might be expected from an early outing for all the players involved.
The second half was a different matter, with Lewes dominating the half as they began to get their game together, and camping on the Guildford try line for long periods.
The final score was 24-5 (a creditable result bearing in mind the higher-ranking status of their opponents) with Billy Shiell the scorer of Lewes’s second half try.
New Player/Coach Mike Stubbs was happy with the positive performance of the team, with a number of players visibly growing in confidence and stature as the game progressed.
