COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT BY LEWES RFC

On Friday July 4th Wooden Spoon Sussex chair Sandy Fleming opened their 24th project – a new interactive sensory room at Pippa’s Group a pre-school nursery, assisted by Captain Jade Walter and Lauren Arthur from Lewes Ladies Rugby Club, and Dereck Wade, a Lewes RFC Vice-President, together with supporters from Brighton and Haywards Heath Rugby Clubs.

Pippa’s Group in Lewes, East Sussex supports children aged 2-5 years who are in need. The majority are at an economic disadvantage and have special educational needs. With the help of a Wooden Spoon grant of over £12,000, the new sensory room aims to provide a stimulating and educational setting.

The new sensory room will extend the children’s learning needs and hope to improve their physical development, personal, social and economic development and communication and language skills.

At the opening of the new interactive Sensory Room, Sandy Fleming congratulated the founder Pippa Campbell on creating a much needed pre-school nursery in the Lewes area. Pippa founded the school in 1986 and its new permanent home on the Landport Estate is a former Community Centre which is being developed by Pippa, her family and volunteers into a multi-use space for the benefit of the wider community.

On behalf of the Pippa’s Group Chair of Trustees, Ruth O’Keeffe MBE thanked Wooden Spoon and commented on how much all the children at Pippa’s Group enjoyed the experience of being able to use the interactive Magic Carpet projections in the new sensory room for play and learning.
