A perfect storm of injuries and absences, particularly amongst the forwards, meant that a small but determined Colts squad travelled to Hastings and Bexhill RFC for the first league match of the season. The absence of so many forwards meant that a game plan was quickly decided: quick ball, go wide. Happily, this was very well executed throughout the match apart from the opening minutes of the second half when Hastings and Bexhill dominated possession and used their big forwards to score a well deserved try.
Special mention should go to winger Henry Anstee Moore who stepped in to the second row and scrum half Dante Maguire who played at number 8. They both had excellent games in unfamiliar positions. Congratulations also to Elliot Newman and Ethan Cowler for terrific debuts as Lewes Colts.
Tries were scored by Geordie Gwynn, Tom Waters, Bailey Le Beau and Elliot Newman. But without a doubt this was a whole team effort confirming our philosophy that after the third phase the number on the back of your shirt is irrelevant
