Guidelines and FAQ.

Q. How do I join or sign my child up for Lewes RFC?

Please read carefully as there are TWO parts to the registration process - RFU affiliation and membership fees - both need to be completed online.

1) RFU Affiliation:

This is very important as each player requires an RFU ID and number to play in Festivals and competitive league matches. This is free. Registration is completed via the RFU website, called GMS.

2) Lewes RFC Membership fees:

This is your membership to the club - your subscriptions fees cover facilities hire and maintenance, kit and equipment, post-match food and access to International Tickets.

Q: How much are the Lewes RFC Membership fees?.

U6s Registration fee
Annual fee: £50

Minis playing members (U7to U11)

Annual fee: £85
Instalments are also available

Youth/Juniors playing members (U12 to U18) – including Lionesses
Annual fee: £120
Instalments are also available.

Sibling playing members
Annual fee: £55
One player pays the higher membership rate and the sibling the discounted rate. The higher membership rate applies, e.g. one player pays the higher membership price and the sibling the discounted rate. Eg for one Junior and one Mini player, pay one Junior Membership and one sibling rate, not one Mini and sibling rate.

If you have any queries regarding registration and affiliation - please contact club treasurer.

Assistance with signing up and paying fees will be available in the clubhouse on Sunday mornings.

Q: What steps do I need to follow to either enroll or re-enroll for the 2023/2024 season?

Instructions for new players

Step 1: RFU Affiliation

All new players need to first register with the RFU. Follow the steps to create a child account and select AFFILIATION.

If you get stuck, the RFU have produced this handy guide for parents signing up for the first time. This is a downloadable PDF.

NB Please be aware that GMS is optimised for Chrome and the most recent updates of Safari and Firefox only.

Please complete all information fields for your child.

Step 2: Pay Lewes RFC Membership fees

Finally go back to the child homepage and select 'BUY MEMBERSHIP'

Instructions for returning players

Step 1: RFU Re-Affiliation

ALL parents and guardians will be required to re-register their child with the RFU on an annual basis (this replaces the paper form you might have filled in in the past). This MUST be done within 45 days of the start of the season to ensure your child is fully covered by RFU Insurance. If you know your RFU login, follow this link to the RFU website to get started.

If you have forgotten your password go to the GMS website and follow the instructions to recover you password using the email address you put down on your original paper form.

If you have problems contact our Club Secretary. Please do not try and create a new account.

The RFU have also produced this handy guide for parents.

If your renewal is successful you will receive a confirmation from the RFU.

NB Please be aware that GMS is optimised for Chrome and the most recent updates of Safari and Firefox only

Step 2: Pay Lewes RFC Membership fees

Next, go back to the child's home screen and select 'BUY MEMBERSHIP'

Q: Who is my child's coach?

A full list of coaches for each age group is available under the relevant team section available on the homepage.

Q: Where and when is training?

We are currently following the RFU's Return to Community Rugby Roadmap. There will be some necessary changes to accommodate the safe return to rugby. Please note the following arrangements: Minis and U12 train from 09.30; Juniors from 11.00. Please check with your Head Coach / Team Manager regarding your pitch location and any midweek training (Juniors only) as well.

Q: Which age group does my child belong to?

The age group of a player is determined by their age at the start of the season at midnight on 31st August. For example, someone aged 10 on the 31st August goes into the U11 for the 2020/21 season.

Q: What does my child need to wear to training and for matches?

Training kit
The wearing of mouth guards is compulsory from U9 upwards. There are a range of products available from ‘boil and bite’ to orthodontic mouth guards which are fitted to the wearer personally. Any player without a mouthguard will be unable to take part.

Minis players can wear either football boots with moulded studs, rugby boots or trainers. Junior players must wear rugby boots (no moulded studs).

Tracksuit bottoms, shorts and a t-shirt, sweatshirt or fleece are fine for training. We recommend a base layer (leggings and polo neck) for the colder months. These can be bought relatively cheaply at Decathlon or Sports Direct.

U9s upwards should not wear clothing with zips to training because of contact.

It is essential that parents ensure that players have proper winter clothing with them every Sunday as we play rugby in all weathers and whilst we do try to keep everyone on the move there is always a little standing around, especially at larger competitions. Extra layers, waterproof tops and bottoms, hats and gloves are all essential items – if children get cold they are unlikely to enjoy themselves and can be put off playing.

Please also bring a water bottle.

Playing kit
Shirts - match shirts are provided for the Minis, Junior and Lioness age groups only for official fixtures and tournaments.

We also have a Lewes RFC Club Shop where we sell Samurai match shirts, team wear and other branded products including hoodies, beanies and club ties. You can buy directly online at: http://www.lewesrugby.com/payments/category/teamwear

Shorts - players of all age groups are required to purchase their own shorts and socks which can be done so through the Club Shop

The club also has a 2nd hand kit shop in the clubhouse on selected Sunday mornings.
